Respite care

What does respite care involve?

Respite care can assist in providing relief to long term carers and take on the responsibilities of the carer temporarily. This allows carers to spend time focusing on their own wellbeing and health. RDNS can organise flexible arrangements to suit both the carer and person being cared for, from as little as a few hours of the day.

Why is respite care important?

Respite care is important in giving carers the opportunity to take a break for a short period of time from their normal caring duties. This allows carers time to take care of their personal business and maintain relationships outside of their general role as a carer.

Support to stay engaged with the community

Staying engaged with your friends, whanau and local community is important and has many mental and physical health benefits. Our support workers can help you stay connected to your local community in lots of different ways.

This may mean helping you keep up with your hobbies or sharing a cup of tea with you. Maybe you would like to join a bowling club, attend a Tai chi class or go swimming. We can help you research and arrange these types of activities.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT GROUPS

RDNS can also assist you to access social and community services and support groups, such as disability, stroke or arthritis foundations.

WHY IS SOCIAL SUPPORT IMPORTANT?

Social support is proven to reduce stress levels, and help manage stressful situations when part of a broader community or have a group of select friends to turn to in times of need. Social support has been widely studied and can not only reduce stress levels but also has positive long term effects in improving your general physical and mental wellbeing.
